A Cheap Heat Primer

Very Friendly has a handful of guiding principles we operate under. One of the biggest surrounds the issue of affordability. We know that collecting records can be a pretty tremendous money suck. We know how easy it is to get swept away by what-ifs; “What if this item from my Discogs wantlist sells by tomorrow morning?” “What if I never see this 7-inch again?” And we also know that, deep in our hearts, the most expensive records are not always the ones we cherish most.

Michael Villapiano, one of our co-founders and head of the record store arm of Very Friendly, is doing his best to combat those impulses with a series he recently started on his Instagram. And if you’re on that dreaded platform, and you have ever signaled interest in record collecting, your algorithm is probably serving you endless reels about high-ticket records, liquid-filled LPs and all sorts of other un-conscientious consumerism. “Cheap Heat” is a series of videos all about high quality records that can consistently be found for under $10.

We chose a selection of Cheap Heat videos for you to peruse; we’ll let the man himself do the talking. Be on the lookout for plenty more cheap heat when we open this year!
